Reimagining Leadership: Embracing Change for a Sustainable Future

What if we simply let the world revolve around us, without stepping in? Waiting for circumstances to dictate our happiness, while allowing policy to determine the future for our children, seems like a passive approach. Yet, many leaders and those bound by convention and bureaucracy prefer slow or no change, especially if it threatens their place in the current order. They often say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it.” But is this mindset sustainable in today’s rapidly changing world?

We hear daily that the world is changing and feels out of control. This is not the time to wait out the storm or let bureaucrats quietly steer the ship. Many Canadians face realities that demand bold leadership and fresh ideas. What if we allowed entrepreneurs, professionals, and those with a lifetime of wisdom to chart a new course?

Every day, we hear of advancements in renewables, environmental best practices, improved metrics in health care, and manufacturing opportunities at a world-class level. It is possible to diversify our energy supply, manage water sustainably, and prepare for the impacts of climate change. We might just be able to elevate wellness before it becomes a chronic illness.

What if we reversed privatization in favour of universal service to all Canadians? What if

we allowed contracting out to be managed by experts in the field, separate from

bureaucracy? Would our maintenance and capital costs decrease by 30%? Would we

choose the best business for the task, as opposed to selecting those with an existing

relationship, since it has always been done that way”? Have we chosen the best

science that actually improves our environment and benefits every creature in the

ecosystem, including you and me?

Why are we so afraid of ruffling feathers? We shy away from making real partnerships

and investing wisely. It takes real effort. I can see a path forward where alliances with

all levels of government, including First Nations, are seamless. I like to surround myself

with visionaries and leaders who can exponentially increase the value of an idea. They

are prepared to build upon an existing foundation, but are also not afraid to create

something brand new.

What if we combine our energies, share the dream, and utilize the tools that lie in front

of us? What if we work together?

Moving Beyond Tradition to Build a Stronger Future

The old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it” no longer applies. The world is changing too fast, and the stakes are too high. Canadian leadership must embrace change, innovation, and collaboration to build a sustainable future.

This means:

• Encouraging entrepreneurs and experts to lead new initiatives

• Reversing privatization where it undermines universal access

• Managing contracts with transparency and expertise

• Building partnerships with Indigenous communities and all government levels

• Investing in renewable energy, sustainable water use, and preventive health care
